The season is officially underway and week 1 is over. Some pretty good games so far, and actually good turnouts from the fans. With both Chicago baseball teams in 1st place still, and what has been waning interest we thought crowds would actually be down.


Gotta love the fans....

My first assignment for a new client was to cover water polo, I'd never seen a water polo match before.

There is a lot of whistle blowing in water polo.

The weekend before last we headed down to Starved Rock, we took the Munchkin and a friend of hers to the Grand Bear Lodge there for the weekend in celebration of her 13th birthday. It was a pretty good time, they have a small water park and amusement type park there for the kids to amuse themselves with, and we stayed in a little condo type place that was really nice. It has a kitchen, dining room, 2 bedrooms and 3 hide a bed couches. With such easy access to the park it would be a great place to get a group of friends together for a weekend.

Last weekend we started packing up some of the miscellaneous stuff in the house to take over to the storage unit in preparation to sell it. In case some of you haven't heard, when our towns referendum for another high school failed we decided to put the house for sale to move North a bit. This will get the Munchkin out of this school district and coincidentally lessen my commute a bit.

In other news I picked up a new paper to do some freelance sooting for. So far I've now seen my first water polo match and track meet, on Saturday I'm going to shoot gymnastics...
I can't wait for football to start up again.

Saturday night I went out to a local bar to see Orange Whip in one of thier many come back shows. I mainly went out to try my hand at some band shooting. It was incredibly dark, and most of their lights all had red gel in them, but I don't think I did too badly. Especially for a first go.

I've been quite busy as of late, with work picking, both at the day job and now that it's football season.

I've also been participating in more extra curricular activities, work has quite a few sports leagues including; basketball, flag football, soccer, volleyball, as well as several styles of softball. There is 16 inch, 10 inch, as well as 12 inch coed mush ball, which is the league my "department" joined so in the spirit of brotherhood I joined as well. This means now that the fall league has started in Channahon I'm playing twice a week. What a workout for a fat desk jockey!

The work team has won 2 out of the 3 games, and the Channahon team has broken our lifetime winless streak with a good win in the first game of the season! (Hey, we were very excited at our play, we even turned a double play! The coach says next week he'll bring some beer! This might put us at 1-1 though...) saintedwyn might have even "gotten some"!

Well the fist games of the new football season are in the can. Like I thought, Friday night ended up being washed out, most schools chose to change to Saturday games so I went home.

I ended up at a Saturday evening game and the triple header at Soldier Field last night, so I definitely got my football fix to start off the season. So much so that I'm pretty tired and sore today.

Extra tired and sore because my buddy let me borrow his 300 f2.8 prime lens for the weekend. It was sweet! I'm in lust with it!




The picture doesn't really do it justice, the thing is 10" long (Without the hood which is another 6" beyond the front.) and 6lbs, add that to the weight of the camera and it gets to get a little cumbersome after walking up and down the sidelines all day.


It is a sweet sports lens though; sharp, wide aperture, fast focusing, and a good focal length. I only need to sell 2 million or so prints to get one...

The only bad thing about a weekend full of taking pictures? I probably have over 8 gig worth of pictures to edit and put up. :-(

I think I have a hood for the 16-35 somewhere... I need to find it.
